If you’re not familiar with “Dysfunctional Family Circus,” the idea is that you take scans of Family Circus comics and give them new captions. Most of the humor irony of seeing the excessively pure and boring Family Circus characters swearing like marines and acting like morally bankrupt ghetto, or otherwise saying something completely absurd (like in the “Cthulu Circus”). Just as a heads up, captions that are vulgar, obscene, sexual, or scatological are fairly common, so don’t blame me if you Google for DFC and your sensibilities get offended.
That being said, I decided to give making my own DFC comics the ol’ college try. I only had one picture, but I managed to come up with ten or so captions for it. Some of which were probably a little racy, and I’ve ommitted those from this blog for obvious reasons. I hope that you find at least one of them to be amusing. This was from an entry in my Myspace blog, which I kept sorta faithfully for a long time. It’s being reproduced here for the sake of not letting everything go to waste. Most of my captions are based on internet memes or whatever, so if you don’t get or think they’re stupid, I won’t be offended.
Oh, and if you’re worried about copyrights, this kind of thing is protected as parody work.

Hi,
Out of nostalgia, I did a search for “dysfunctional family circus”, and I came upon your site. I played a part in the DFC that got shut down by Bil Keane in 1999. Greg Galcik (Spinn) at spinnwebe.com put up the site, and there were several of us who contributed captions on a daily basis. It became almost a competition between us to see who could get the most captions accepted by Greg and his editing crew. It was a bittersweet moment when I saw the site on CNN right before the axe fell. Bil’s son Jeff even chatted with us online about the site and why it had to come down. He said he was sorry, and actually laughed at many of the captions. But alas, all good things must come to an end. I’m just sorry I didn’t find the site sooner (they were already at panel 225 when I discovered it…I started off with my initials “R.J.M.” before switching to “Les Miserables”).
I miss those days.
Anyway…I just thought I’d share. BTW, the last I heard, there was one of the old contributors who is keeping the DFC going underground, and is still accepting and posting the funniest captions.
