[T]he fact that torture isn’t reliable at extracting truth is a feature, not a bug.“As a result, information produced by the suspect may parrot or embellish suggestions from the interrogators rather than revealing something both truthful and unknown to the interrogators.”
What better way to extract “confessions” that benefit you politically (like WMDs in Iraq) that aren’t actually true?

September 20, 2009I am loving Opera 10, especially it’s new look! Not so much liking that it still doesn’t handle the column feature in Wikipedia’s references template the way Firefox does, but it’s still a cool browser.

September 19, 2009I’ve discovered that I’ve been creating my fractal wallpapers, which are supposed to be 1920×1200 as 1900x1200. Oops. I’ll be remembering to do it the right way in the future.
And speaking of my fractals, I have intentions to upload 5 or so 100 megabyte rar files of them. So, if you had always wanted to download my fractal wallpapers in bulk, rejoice! Not sure how many are in each library, or in total, but I’ll get back with you on that when I find a good free file host. Feel free to make suggestions for one if you have a preference.

September 19, 2009Proposal: An object in orbit around a planet is not a moon unless it has been rounded out by its own gravity. Objects not massive enough to have been rounded by their own gravity should be referred to as Small Planetary Satellites.

September 18, 2009Another cool tyrannosauroid has been discovered in China. Sadly the name isn’t as cool as the critter; Raptorex. I think that’s a world record for the worst name ever given to a dinosaur. It’s the paleontological equivalent to kitsch. All it is is raptor + rex. Ew.
Come to think of it, none of the new dinosaurs unveiled in the past week or so have had very good names. Dinosaur naming in general is a lost art. Next time someone erects a Placename-osaurus, I’m gonna kick the next paleontologist I see in the balls.
