About Me

I’m Abyssal, the webmaster of this blog, and I think it may be useful for readers to know a little bit about me. I always find myself drawn to “About Me” pages at other peoples’ blogs, and it’s really kind of frustrating when they’re absent or half-assed. I don’t know how many of you feel the same way, but just in case there’s someone out there like myself, I’ll try to be thorough here.

I was born in 1987 in southeast Michigan, which means that as of today I’m 20 years old. My parents were both originally from West Virginia, but had left the state in search of jobs. Both of them ended up working in a Detroit auto factory. They ended up divorcing, too. I was three when that happened.

Afterwards, I moved in with my mom. Not long after, maybe six months or a year, that I became obsessed with dinosaurs. Just like nearly all four year old boys of my generation. I decided I wanted to be a paleontologist when I grew up. What makes me different is that I’m still pursuing that dream.

Obsessing over paleontological minutiae was pretty much all I did the rest of my elementary school career. However, after I switched to a different school at the beginning of 5th grade I spent the rest of the year as an obsessive Sonic the Hedgehog fan.

During sixth grade, my scientific interests also got pushed aside, this time in favor of the Pokemania that swept America for the next two years or so. Pokemon consumed my very soul those two years. By the time eighth grade started, though, I remembered that I had other interests besides Pokemon.

For some reason I decided that I was going to be smart. Not smart as in 4.0 grade point average, or any of that crap, I was going to be a real intellectual. And not just any common thinker, I aspired to be the next Aristotle or Newton or Darwin; especially Darwin. I wondered if Darwin might have been wrong about the mechanism of evolutionary change?

It was perfect! If I found the “true” mechanism of evolution, I might not only be able to become one of the most famous scientists (or even people) in history, but could possibly pave the way to proving the existence of God.

I began obsessively researching anything I could possibly get my hands on that was “anti-darwin.” Yet something surprised me. All of these antidarwinists seemed not only to deny natural selection, but to deny evolution itself! I mean, I knew such people existed, but I didn’t know that they were so numerous. Or that they wrote books and managed websites.

It was bizarre to see all my interests converging like this. This so-called “Young Earth Creationism” combined almost everything I ever loved into one; God, dinosaurs, and cryptozoology blissfully united together. It was enthralling. I began exploring the Young Earth side of the world wide web. It didn’t take long for me to find piles of blatantly ignorant bullshit amongst those young earth sites.

I spent a while endeavoring to write a book about Dromaeosaurids. Little became of it, but at least I tried, right?

This isn’t my first attempt at a blog, but hopefully it will be my most interesting and enduring attempt at making one work. What will this blog be about? Well, me of course. I am the entity around which the universe revolves. And I happen to have a lot of interests that are spread out all over the place. I’ll try to make an uber leet bulleted list of stuff you might read about here.

  • My Life.
  • Politics (I’m something of a liberal).
  • Religion (Christianity is my religion of choice).
  • Creation/Evolution Debate (I’m a theistic evolutionist).
  • RPG Maker (I’m working on a game called Soulstorm Legacy)
  • UFOs (I’m a “believer”)
  • Cryptozoology.
  • Electronic Music, Books, anime, etc.
  • Science

Hm… I must point out something - but you’ve already probably heard it before.

    Creation/Evolution Debate (I’m a theistic evolutionist).

    You’re a theistic Evolutionist - and a Christian.
Very well - I’d like to point out something.

The word used for “day” in Genesis is “Yom.” Yom means “eavening and morning” or “24 hour period.” That same word was used for Noah and the Ark, some others, and the amount of time that Jesus was in the tomb.

First of all, it seems pretty clear to me that the time in Genesis was truly one literal day, and if not, how can you pick and choose? If in Genesis you believe that it was millions of years for one day, then how long was Noah on the ark and Jesus in the tomb?

But putting that aside, it all comes down to “who are you going to trust?” Are you going to trust Science or God?

    *shrugs*
Those are just some thoughts of mine - take ‘em or leave ‘em.

    Hi ****,
interesting stuff in your blog; I haven’t had time to do much more than take a few glances yet, but more power to you in your discovery in the Lord and in stirring up thought on the science-”vs”-faith topic (as if there WERE a “versus”!). You might be interested in a series I’m putting together in my own blog (just a place to post my thoughts, not an interactive blog like this one is); you and others might also be interested in the excellent, recent interview that Discover magazine had with Francis Collins (U.S. top genomicist in the human genome project, and a very devout Christian, of course a theistic evolutionist); you can find it at http://discovermagazine.com/2007/feb/interview-francis-collins … I have a few more comments I could add here from a LONG email I sent to my pastor recently, but it’s probably too long for this space. All the best bud, God bless — Rog

    Hi,
Thanx for the comment! Had a little look around here… just wanted to mention one thing in relation to above posts…

I believe (and just my belief) that 2 Peter 3:8 means that time runs differently in heaven (with God) than it does here. I also believe that 1000years:1day isn’t literal, but trying to describe that time with God isn’t ‘fixed’ as we interpret it, but ebbs and flows (for want of a better term, lol). Maybe what I am trying to say is, that it isn’t quantifyable… hmm, I will try and find a better way to explain at a better time (kiddlywinks running around lol). Anyway, to me, I interpret creation in six days (with God) not to necessarily mean six periods of 24 hours as we know it. Many will disagree, but its just what I believe.

Take care, God bless you all mightily,
    Angie

  17. Petros Petrosyan Says:

    Attention, 1day = 1000 years
Based n the information from the Holy Bible we have established that God creating the Universe, including Adam-the Man, with absolute exactness determined the period of time during which human kind has to exist on this planet. To be able to determine that period we have carefully to study the following items of the Bible.
Genesis Ch. 6:3 “and said the Lord my spirit shall not always strive with man for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years” And also the next item, 2Peter Ch.3.8 ” But beloved be not ignorant of this one thing that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day ” In Genesis Ch. 6:3 God has determined the period of existence of human kind on the Earth : “…his days shall be a hundred and twenty years” So how many days are there in 120 years It won’t be difficult to calculate it for we know that 1 year = 365 days, 120 x 365 = 43800 days
It appears that God has alloted the man 43800 days. However we must remember that these are divine days. Now taking into cosideration Apostle Peter’s saying 2Peter Ch. 3:8 ” that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years” 1day =1000 years,
it is not difficult to guess that 43800 x 1000 = 43 800 000 years and we conclude that God has alotted humankind 43 800 000 years of existence on the planet Earth.
See Koran Ch.22.46: Here again affirms that 1day = 1000 years
Acording to some data of academic science the man appeared on the earth about 40 - 50 million years ago. We think that this kind of analitical thinking may influence your logic as well. It appears that things are not as simple as they may seem at first sight.
Based on the above mentioned facts from the Holy Bible we have ascertained that the second advent of Jesus Christ will take place at the end of the XX and beginning of XXI century.
Jesus said that on the third day of his crucifixtion he will rise frim the dead. As the true believers know it really happened like that.Taking into consideration apostle Peter’s words: 2Peter Ch. 3:8 , where it is clearly mentioned ” that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years ” we appear to be right in the following. Jesus was crucified on Friday, and resurrected on Sunday. The exact period of time betwen crucifix and resurrection fluctuates from 46 - 48 hours. As we see 3 days are mentioned ,but the real space of time between crucifix an resurrection makes two days or even a bit less.
    2 days = 2000 years or a bit less.
It appears that all the Christian world will first hear and then only see Jesus Christ. Just as in the Gospel, first they heard John the Baptist and then saw Jesus Christ.
XXI century will be the witness of that happy encounter. All these events will occur in the third millenium or on the third day after Crucifix of Jesus.

Life and Reason will resuscitate on New Mars.
Decoding of hypothetically presupposed cipher displays that reasonable life within the framework of the Solar system can exist only on the third planet removed from the Sun.And we are well aware that this third planet is our Earth.Has anybody ever pondered over the problem what would happen in case the Earth perishes? In that case Mars will appear as the third planet of the Solar system.Life and Reason will resuscitate on New Mars.
Mars will assume the role of the third planet also if either Venus or Mercury perished. In this case as well the relay-race baton of Life and Reason will pass to the planet Mars.
Imagine that right after Venus instead of the Earth’s orbit we’ll see a stripe of asteroids presenting fragments of the perished Earth.
Next to asteroid stripe The Planet Mars is seen which has changed in its dimensions and whose parametres have acquired new characteristics.

1.Its diameter will increase almost twice.
2.Mars will rotate round its axes during 2992 minutes or (49 h 52min) which equals 1441 Martian minutes.
    1 Martian minute = 2,076 terrestrial minutes
1 Martian day will last longer than two days at present.
3.The revolution of Mars round the Sun will take 821 terrestrial days
    or 365 Martian days.
Two moons will illuminate the nightly sky of New Mars These moons are Fobos and Deimos present day sattelites of Mars which will considerably increase in dimemsions.Mars will be followed by another stripe of asteroids which are the fragments of a former planet named Phaeton in Ancient Greek legends.
It appeares as if Life and Reason can migrate from one planet of the solar system to another one. Each time they will assume new forms and content.
Each time experience and knowledge , the bearers of Divine Reason, will exceed their boundaries. The Great Architect of the Universe has designed all the space way /path of the bearers of life and reason.

Hello, I would like to use one of your fractal designs for a birthday party t-shirt, but the thumbnail on your website gets too pixellated when blown up larger. The design is red with a purple and turqiose design in the middle, and it is somewhat symmetrical. Please let me know if this is possible, thank you very much. -Phil

  19. Abyssal Says:

Hm, the thumbnails were supposed to be clickable. I guess that means I screwed up somewhere. Oops.

I have a possible solution, though. If you right click on the image and go down near the bottom of the menu and click “properties” (or your browser’s equivalent) it should give you the url to the original uploaded source file. Visit the url and you can download the full size image.

If that doesn’t work, just tell me the name of the post, and I can hunt it up for you.

And “Happy Birthday” to whoever’s having the party. :)

I am looking for photos and seeking permission to use images of the ringneck snake, Diadophis punctatus for publication in a European herpetology magazine. We are looking for all varieties of this genus. I have noticed that you have images posted on a website, and am wondering if you would be willing to let us publish them to accompany an upcoming article. The images would have to be 600 DPI or greater. We would have to have permission from the photographer, and of course will give full credit.
